The club is run entirely by volunteers. These come from a variety of sources, but the most common is the membership: current members; former members; the wider family of members. Getting involved in the club is great fun, very rewarding and can be as little or as much effort as you want it to be. Starting is easy, here are just a few ways that you can help out.
Coach/Assistant
Coaching sessions cannot run without coaches, assistants and helpers. Even raking the pit during a training session is very helpful. If you want to go further, the coaching team at the club can help you identify the right role and explain the training and pathways open to you. The club is always keen to discuss new coaching opportunities and support new coaches.
Officials
To compete we have to provide a team of athletes AND a team of officials. In most leagues there are points available for a full complement of officials. You can start to help the officials at an event without any qualification, just enthusiasm. If you enjoy what you do, the club will support you to go through the training and qualification process with the UKA, to a level you feel comfortable. We have officials at the club who started as keen parents and have ended up officiating at the Olympic Games!
Club House
On a cold, wet, training night in November you'll be grateful for the teas and coffees available in the Club House. This facility is a great asset to the club not only providing a great service but also a valuable source of funds. Keeping it running requires a stream of volunteers, and more are always welcome. If you can make a cup of tea, you're qualified!
